CUSTOM BASE (c) 1991 Artisan Software P.O . Box 849 Manteca, CA 95336 ----------------------------------------------------------- CUSTOM BASE is a short and sweet way to transform the Atari Portfolio into a versatile data collecting device. It permits Portfolio users to designate a list of questions for others to answer easily. ----------------------------------------------------------- Custom Base has been released as shareware in public domain forums. Distribution and review is available to users at no charge, however, a fee of $10 is requested from those who use CUSTOM BASE. Please extend this charge to cover each Portfolio which CUSTOM BASE is used. Three files should be contained in the compressed archive of CUSTOM BASE: CBASE.DOC is this text file PBRUN.EXE is a tsr required before CBASE.COM may be executed CBASE.COM is the actual program To create a DO file: 1) enter the Portfolio Text Editor 2) Create a NEW file if the Editor is loaded with a previous document 3) On the first line, type CBASE, then return. This will tell CBASE that this is a valid file when CBASE uses it. 4) On the next line, type a question for your questionaire. The question must be 40 characters or less. After the question, type a comma, then a number which represents the maximum number of characters the answer may accept. Finally, press return again. For instance: FULL NAME,30[rtn] 5) Repeat step 4 for as many questions desired. It is important to note that the answers will be formatted in a filer compatible to the Portfolio's Address Book. Therefore the answer to the first question will always be the one which is sorted. 6) When all questions have been entered, save the file while making certain it has a .TXT extender. To use CBASE.COM: 1) Use the Portfolios Text Editor and create a do file. 2) Copy CBASE.COM and PBRUN.EXE to your A: drive. (C: drive if no A: exist) 3) Type PBRUN at your system DOS prompt. 4) Type CBASE at your system DOS prompt. 5) At the first prompt, type the name of your do file. (Do not type the extender) 6) At the second prompt, type the name of your output file. It may be the same name as your do file if you wish. If you designate a non-existent file, CUSTOM BASE will create a new one, otherwise the old one will be appended. 7) After the first two prompts, the user will be asked the questions contained in the do file. When the last question is asked, CUSTOM BASE will begin asking them all over again. 8) To exit, type XIT at any prompt. To access, edit or delete previous entries, simply call up the Portfolio's Address Book application. Load the file created by CUSTOM BASE by following the Address Book's procedure for loading files.
