Aportisdoc Reader for the Portfolio This is a primitive program to read compressed Aportisdoc text files (normally intended for the PalmPilot handheld) on the portfolio. As it was made very quickly there is next to no documentation and the only thing the program can do is decompress and try to word-wrap and display the text to you. Nothing more. Usage: AREAD If the file can't be found, PATH will be searched. Press any key to display the next page. (First page will display the file's title) Press ESC to exit to DOS. Very useful feature: After displaying a page it will save your current file and position within it to a file called AREAD.DAT. When run next time (without any commandline parameters) or after a system crash it will bring you to where you left last time. (Note about the DAT file: If it does not yet exist it will be created in the C:\SYSTEM directory. If you do not want it to be there move it anywhere else but be sure it can be found by AREAD in the current directory or somewhere in the PATH. The program will search these places.) Use only Aportisdoc files (standard endings are .prc and .pdb, but most .pdb files seem to be something else) and be sure to spell the filename correctly. If you do anything wrong anywhere it might well crash. Don't expect too much, but it does the job nicely for me. Due to the portfolio's nearly complete death (at least it seems so to me) this program may be used and copied freely, but it may not be reverse-engineered or anything else which goes beyond normal usage. If you include it with some product which is to be sold, be so kind and ask me for permission first. If you need "customer support", don't hesitate to ask me per E-Mail at gthoele@gmx.de or by snailmail at Gunnar Thoele Poststrasse 1 D-25693 St.Michaelisdonn Germany Future: I have plans... I am thinking of scroll-back and bookmarks. And possibly a file browser. For the far future I am thinking of a HTML renderer and display features of other file formats, especially GIF graphics. (Maybe in another program) Getting books to read: try following internet links: http://www.memoware.com/ http://www.macduff.net/library.asp This file is provided in ADOC format for you to have something to test the software with (use AREAD.PRC) That's all for now. Bye Gunnar AREAD has an own homepage including some stuff for reading! http://www.pingweb.de/gunni/ereader.htm
