ALMBOOST.COM for the Arari-Portfolio ==================================== System requirements & disclaimer: --------------------------------- This program only runs correctly on the Atari-Portfolio palmtop- computer. Mine came with DIP 2.11 v1.072. I hope that there aren't any problems with other versions. However, please backup important data before starting the program. I assume no liability for any damage which may result from the use of this software, even if your display suddenly melts. Disk space: at least 512 bytes (fits into 1 cluster of a 128kB-ram-card) free RAM-memory: at least 336 bytes to install or uninstall How to use Almboost ------------------- Almboost is a useful utility program that installs a very loud alarm-tone (compared to the original one) on the Portfolio. Nevertheless the power consumption during the loud tone is only about 4% higher than during the normal. Almboost will even save the batteries because the computer will be automatically switched off immediately after the tone. Normally the display stays on for nearly 4 minutes! Moreover the duration of the sound can be set to a value between 1 and 99 seconds. The total energy required for a single alarm can thus be reduced dramatically. Example: Setting the sound duration to 10 seconds cuts down the energy consumption for every alarm to about 1/13 of the original! Installation: Syntax: ALMBOOST n or ALMBOOST [d][c]n n: duration of the sound in seconds. The allowed range is 1 to 99 seconds. n=0 is used to remove Almboost completely. d: If the number n is preceeded by a "d", the battery- saving-function is disabled i.e. the display is not switched off immediately after every alarm. c: If the number n is preceeded by a "c", the alarm sound is a pulsating tone of a constant frequency instead of a whining one. Examples: ALMBOOST 7 alarm tone lasts 7 seconds ALMBOOST c14 pulsating tone of constant frequency for 14 seconds ALMBOOST dc10 pulsating tone of constant frequency for 10 seconds, no battery-saver ALMBOOST 0 remove program from memory After the installation, your free system memory will be reduced by 160 bytes. This is because the routine for the sound generation must stay resident in memory. To change the settings of the alarm- booster, it is not necessairy to remove it first, but memory can become fragmented and the free space reported by CHKDSK is decreased.
