The Big Little Print Machine Ver. 2.1 Quick Start: BLPM filename Keys: | Any key - advance to the next page | Up arrow - back up (approximately one page) | L - Line wrap toggle | M - Magnify (toggle 3 positions.) | W - Write screen to SAVE.TXT (appends) | ESC - save place and exit to DOS. Display: If there is room on the display there are two lines and twelve dots on the bottom of the display. The bottom line is shows the percent of the file viewed. The line above that is an 12 hour analog clock that shows 12:00 on the left and 11:59 on the right. Twelve dots (just below) mark the hour. Resume: After you exit you can pick up where you were the last time you ran BLPM by just typing: BLPM Compression: I included a compression utility (BCOMPRES) that can compress text files to be read by BLPM. BLPM can automatically distinguish between a normal text file and a compressed one. The syntax is: BCOMPRES file BCOMPRES will make a back up of the file that was compressed by appending a ! at the end of the file name. The original name is the one that is compressed. Example: BCOMPRES test.txt Compress test.txt to test.txt and leaves test.tx! as a backup of the original file. Notes: You can view any size file in BLPM. It does not load the whole file into memory just a little at a time. When you exit BLPM (ESC key) it writes blpm.dat to the current directory. This file keeps track of what file and where BLPM was in the file. If you need to have BLPM keep track of multiple files. Just put each file in their own directory and make sure BLPM is in the path. Then chdir to the directory of the file you want to view and type BLPM to display the file where you left off. The only file you need on the Port is BLPM. All the others you can delete. I use a character font that I designed myself for the Port's graphic screen. It's the smallest that I could do and still be "readable." To gain more characters per line I made the font proportional. So the actual number of characters per line can very somewhere between 60 and 75. Currently only the standard ASCII character set is supported (32-127.) The word wrap algorithm is on the conservative side. And will try to preserve spacing of tables and other indented information in the file. Occasionally it will drop to the next line when it shouldn't but I prefer this then it messing up tables. The compression routine is a bit experimental if you have any problems with it please let me know. If you feel confident in the compression routine you can delete the *.??! files and restore them with the UCOMPRES (UnCompress) utility with the following syntax: UCOMPRES filename This will recreate the *.??! backup. Also remember that BLPM and the compression only support text files and all characters above 127 will lose the 8th bit. Caution: I am concerned about the Port's low contrast and the small size of the character set. If eye strain does develop, please take a break or discontinue the use of BLPM.
